The below design case (fig. 1) is proposed for our project “SEVEN Entertainment Complex, Tabuk, KSA” whereas per the site conditions, the drop height for FCU and the other services like ducts in a particular region of the project, is around 4 m, and there are many services at the top, which clashes with the supports if we go ahead with individual supports (like threaded rod), see figure 2. Hence, to overcome this problem, a rigid channel frame of the back-to-back welded channel (NTD 62-2.0) is proposed which will fix to hollow-core slab at the top with base plate (NTBP 124-4H) and shield anchors (NT-SA-Series). Further, FCUs and ducts are supported from this frame. For FCUs, to prevent transmission of vibrations to the structure, spring hangers (NTH-1 Series) are provided. The connections between horizontal and vertical channels are provided with rigid angle fittings (NT-A10 model) and 8.8-grade bolts and channel nuts. The design of this frame was carried out in Staad Pro. and the analysis results were checked to ensure the proposed supports are safe under serviceable and ultimate load combinations as per ASCE 7 codes.
